Saturday it was fairly hot and muggy. Sunday it was worse. Today was just as horrible and tomorrow is supposed to be the yuckiest muggiest harshest day yet. Welcome to a heat wave in New England. It's not just the fact that it's hot. It's the fact that it's hot and humid. Constant sweat and stickiness. Right now I am missing my parents' house with the thermostat permanently set at 60 degrees and central air cooling the whole house down. The house I live in right now is fairly old. I had to buy my own portable window AC last summer, and even with that thing on full blast I could hardly stand it when I got home today. Right now the temperatures outside have cooled down considerably, the thermometer reads 75 degrees.
The one thing I am not looking forward to is teaching in my third floor, no AC classroom tomorrow. Today it was 98 degrees in the room. My students were miserable, I was miserable. I popped in a movie, turned off the lights, and told them to take it easy. I don't know how this is going to work tomorrow, we can't watch movies all week. Or can we? Today during my free period, I went down to the teacher's lounge (which happened to be delightfully chilly - one of the only areas in the school with air conditioning). By the end of the period it was standing room only. Teachers were looking for a safe cool place to rest before going back to their oppressive classrooms. I was glad I got there early enough to get a seat. Everyone was miserable!
By Thursday it will be more manageable. Give me two more weeks and I won't care about this heat. Once I am done with school I'll find ways to stay cool. Sprinklers anyone?

Ick! I can't believe they do that to students! I always wonder why it is that in our oh-so-advanced and techy times we still have temperature regulation problems! Boston is very charming, and I love it, but central air has GOT to have its day here.
Hope you're enjoying a little cooling the past coupla days!
