One more week until Christmas vacation and two weeks at home with my favorite people. I can't believe the school year is almost halfway over already. At the same time, I love that the school year is halfway over already! Last year, it dragged on and on because I just didn't like my job very much. This year it's speeding past me and I think I don't even notice because I am too busy enjoying my life. I love it when that happens.
So I am starting to teach my students about Egypt. I am really excited about this because that is one of the subjects that I actually remember from my days as a sixth grader. I think I decorated my own personal sarcaphogus - I recall using a golden paint pen. A sharpie of sorts. The details don't really matter other than the fact that they are still in my mind, which means that my sixth grade teacher (what was her name again?) made some sort of a lasting impression on me.
I wanted to teach my students about the geography of ancient Egypt, so I had them actually re-create it using themselves as the physical features. I had students sprawled out like they were making snow angels whispering "hot and dry" (these were the deserts of course), students sitting together forming circles (the seas), and students laying head to foot waving their arms in the direction of the "sea" (this would be the Nile River). It was fun. The best part was they could actually label these features on a map when they were done. Success.

I was thinking about you the other day. I need your address so that I can send you a Christmas card. I hate that we aren't in closer contact. We should chat sometime about all the wonderful educational things we are doing in our classrooms. I hope all is well with you. I love you and miss you terribly!
