It's always funny when it happens. I could be sitting in the middle of my classroom, waiting for my students to finish a test, driving in my car thinking about who knows what, or trying to fall asleep when it comes to me. It might just be a phrase or a melody that I have to write down. Those who know me can see it coming on . . .they see the look in my eyes and run for the paper and pencil so they can jot down the budding lyrics as they pour off my tongue. 90% of the time, I will look at the lyrics and shake my head a little embarrassed that I have to claim them as my own. There are those moments though, where I feel like I may have just created something that I wouldn't mind sharing with those who are willing to listen. Here are some of my personal favorites -
Lullaby
Let me sing of bathing in starlight
of dancing in clouds and catching the moon
Let me sing of your home in the sky
of your place in the sun that you'll go to so soon.
I'll let you dream of that dream that you love so,
the one that you wait for all the day long.
The one of the laughter and starlight and moonbeams,
the one that you whisper and break out in song.
Let me hold you and rock you and love you,
let me help to make these dreams come true.
Show me the way to bathe in the starlight
to dance in the clouds and to capture the moon.
In Response
Confidently I shake my head.
I know what happens next,
you can't change my mind with
your dismal and saddened views.
It's not supposed to happen like that.
The sun is supposed to shine through the grey,
the flowers are going to blossom in Spring,
and I will come out triumphant.
So go on and badger me with your
pessimism and sad eyes.
I will firmly stand and smile at the
secret that I alone seem to know . . .
everything is going to be just fine.

Wow. Beautiful. And in true Forrest Gump form, that's all I have to say about that.
